When a BlueClaws Player Homers It Helps Organizations That Support Our Military and Vets!
The HR's for Heroes participants gather Friday at the BlueClaws opener
Home Runs for Heroes is a program that you might not be aware of even though we have been a part of it from the inception and have promoted it fairly heavily over the previous 13 years. Just like the Jersey Shore BlueClaws kicked off their season on Friday so did this program which awards grants to charitable organizations that support active duty military families as well as veterans who have served our country.
It’s all due to the generosity of the OceanFirst Foundation which was created 25 years ago by OceanFirst Bank to provide grants to help families, organizations, schools and communities in central and southern New Jersey. In those 25 years they have awarded $43 million which has clearly made an impact. The Home Runs for Heroes program is one in which every time a BlueClaws player hits a home run at home the foundation awards $1000 to the nonprofit military organization that has that specific inning. However with 14 of them involved in this year’s program there are several innings that more than one have as theirs…they each receive a $1000 for everyone home run. In 2021 a record $91,000 was awarded to the participating organizations and here's hoping we can top that mark this year.
On Saturday DJ Stewart homered for the BlueClaws in the 4th inning which was somewhat historic as it put the the total over $500,000 in money awarded through this program. It was also good news for both Chariot Riders and the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund as they will each receive $2000 as a special bonus. 92.7 WOBM IS proud to be a part of this program and support the following military-based charities (their home run inning is indicated):
