Two men were injured in an early Sunday morning accident around 6:45 am on State Highway 18 North between Route 537 and State Highway 79.

Marlboro Police said the passenger was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by ambulance while the driver had to be extricated by members of the fire department before he was also brought to JSUMC but by medieval helicopter.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation but police said it may have been a hit-and-run.

Cpl. David Ruditsky of the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.

Marlboro Police were joined at the accident scene by NJ State Police, Marlboro Township First Aid Squad, Colts Neck First Aid Squad, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company, Colts Neck Fire Company, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and Hackensack Meridian Hospital.
