Addiction is a disease and a disease that continues to cause problems in towns throughout the Jersey Shore. "Addiction" is described by as "the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity."

One of the drugs that is a definite problem for many not only here but across the heroin. This drug has killed and ruined many lives and it's something we hope in days to come will become a battle we can all help in fighting. We need to stop heroin abuse cases here in Ocean and Monmouth County, but there is a lot of work to do.

In a recent Patch article, the information on the heroin cases was released by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services in the New Jersey Department of Human Services.

We have broken down the Top 10 towns here in Ocean and Monmouth Counites with reported cases of heroin abuse. Here are our local New Jersey towns with the highest-to-lowest number of cases per 1,000 people:

  1. Seaside Heights
  2. Mantoloking
  3. Keansburg
  4. Ocean Gate
  5. Tuckerton
  6. Asbury Park
  7. Bass River Township
  8. Beach Haven
  9. Seaside Park
  10. Englishtown
