Police in Marlboro are investigating the death of a rider who lost control of his bicycle Saturday evening and died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Marlboro Police received a call at 7:12 pm of an injured bicyclist on Pleasant Valley Road near Conover Road and later discovered on scene a bicyclist who was unconscious and suffering from serious trauma related injuries.

The bicyclist was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel Township by Marlboro First Aid Squad where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Police say their early investigation indicates that no motor vehicles were involved in the accident and it appears that the bicyclist lost control of the bicycle for an unknown reason.

Pleasant Valley Road was closed to vehicle traffic between Conover Road and Mockingbird Lane during the investigation.

The identity of the bicyclist is being withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin.
