Retire Your Old USA Flag With Respect

The United States flag represents the 50 states united together to defend and honor this country that we all call home, and they deserve to be retired the same way- with honor and dignity.

This year on June 18, 2019, at 6 p.m, Mercer County will hold its annual flag decommissioning ceremony at Veterans Park in Hamilton, at the Klockner Road entrance.

In conjunction with the Hamilton Township District Committee, American Legion Post 31 and the Mercer County Office of Veteran Services all partner together to host the ceremony every year.

The ceremony is dedicated to retiring U.S. flags in a noble way due to being destroyed, or deemed unusable because of wear and tear.

According to Patch.com, flags that can no longer serve their purpose will be burned with honor in a large fire pit during the dedication, with the Nottingham Fire Company putting the flames out at the end.

Rain date for the ceremony is set for Thursday, June 19.

Those interested in dedicating their unusable flags to the ceremony are encouraged to drop their flags off at any Mercer County office listed below, provided by Patch.com:
