Regal to Reopen Capital Region Theaters in April
At least one movie theater chain in the Capital Region is giving it a go at reopening again.
Last week Governor Cuomo announced that movie theaters could reopen with additional capacity and without a curfew. So, Regal Cinemas took notice and decided that they were ready to try to reopen their movie theaters again.
Regal tried to reopen theaters back in August 2020 but reclosed their locations about two months later. The decision was announced after the James Bond franchise's No Time to Die was shelved until 2021. That movie and several others were either pushed back or released to streaming platforms so Regal decided to close their doors until the movie landscape looked more favorable.
Now, it looks like movies are ready to come back to the movie theater big screen with some new big releases. Regal announced that they will reopen locations on April 2nd, just in time for the big Godzilla Vs. Kong and Mortal Kombat releases. Other movies that are going to be released in theaters early this year include Dune, Jurassic World: Dominion, and the next James Bond movie, No Time to Die.
So, are you going back to the theater? To be honest with you I've kind of gotten used to watching first-run movies in my house. That being said, I love watching a big blockbuster movie in the theater with a bunch of people reacting to the movie. There's nothing like a packed theater laughing, cheering, crying, or screaming during a great movie.
Guests will be required to wear masks, and auditorium capacities will be reduced to 50% and there will be additional cleaning and social distancing for employees and guests.
