New Jersey woman charged with driving the wrong way on I-195 in Howell

She may have been doing the speed limit but a New Jersey woman was doing so on the wrong side of I-195 in Howell Township Monday night.

Police received a 911 call around 6:50 pm about a car traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-195 nearing the Wall Township-Howell Township border.

Three officers were able to safely get onto I-195 and help stop the traffic flow and keep them at a safe distance while a Lieutenant went on a pursuit of the vehicle heading in the wrong direction.

The driver then "completed an evasive maneuver" before continuing in the wrong direction.

Several emergency vehicles were able to temporarily slow down the 2007 Toyota Yaris just by being in the road but the suspect found a way through the shift.

The vehicle finally stopped about 100-yards down the interstate when it was boxed in with the assistance of a Lakewood Fire Chief who was in a marked car with the lights flashing.

The driver, 25-year old Kara Miklas of Sewall, had to be physically removed from her vehicle after police say she ignored commands to exit.

Miklas was arrested and charged with DWI, eluding and several other motor vehicle violations.

She was then released pending a future court appearance.

A witness of the wrong way driving sent a video to ABC Action News in Philadelphia and had a shocked reaction to what, he thought was a male driver at the time, was doing on I-195.

"He's on the other side of the freakin' highway," Sean, told ABC Action News. "He's going to kill somebody," Sean yells in the video as police chased the driver.

Wall Township Police and the NJSP assisted Howell Township Police in the investigation.
