When it comes to Christmas spending, there are very few states that spend more money on Christmas than the great folks here in the Garden State.

Yes, things are more expensive here than they are in most state, so it makes sense, but I think it's more than that. I think these statistics, at Chamber of Commerce, show more than just spending.

I think the numbers point to something even more telling about people in New Jersey. I think it symbolizes the level of generosity and giving here at the Jersey Shore. We like to give, and this is the giving time of year.

So, I'm not surprised at all by these results. For the record, the website ranks us as the 4th highest state for spending, behind only Maryland, Utah and Hawaii.

And how much do the gift giving generous people of the Garden State spend on average each Christmas? The study says we drop $1843 dollars at Christmas time. The fact of them matter is that number surprises me, and not because it's too high. I feel like I thought it would actually be higher.

Of course, I don't think this year will be a year where we spend as much as other years for obvious reasons, but I bet our rank won't change much. We are caring, giving people who want to show the ones we love. But so many are hurting.

That leads me to my next point. I hope you can find it in your heart to add your favorite local charity to your gift list this year. They can certainly use your help. And when you're gift shopping, make sure it's a local business you are supporting!
