Medical episode may have caused car accident in Whiting
Manchester Police are investigating a serious two car crash that took the life of a Whiting man on Wednesday morning around 8:44 am.
Police say 75-year old Joseph Delorenzo was driving west in a Hyundai Sonata on Lacey Road near Manchester Boulevard when he suddenly crossed the center-line and crashed into a Ford Econoline van heading eastbound.
Delorenzo was unresponsive inside the vehicle when officers arrived.
Officers performed life saving measures until the arrival of medical personnel, after which Delorenzo was transported to Community Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the van, identified as 43-year-old Christian Lecomte Jr., of Browns Mills, sustained only minor injuries during the collision and refused medical attention at the scene.
The investigation is pending but police say that the preliminary investigation indicates that Delorenzo may have suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.
This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Ian Bole of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
