Manchester, NJ Police continue investigation of fatal accident on Route 70 in Whiting
Police in Manchester Township continue their investigation into a fatal accident on Route 70 and Manchester Boulevard that occurred last Thursday evening.
Through their preliminary investigation, police learned that 19-year old Justice Wilson of Whiting was heading east on Route 70 in a grey 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup approaching the intersection at Manchester Boulevard in which he had a green light ahead of him.
Then, Monica McCord, 82, of Whiting, who police said also had a green traffic signal in front of them, started turning left in her gold 2005 Honda Accord onto Manchester Boulevard from Route 70 west.
When McCord turned, she was hit by Wilson who had already been driving down Route 70 eastbound.
As a result of the collision on the passenger side of the Accord, McCord's vehicle swung into a utility pole.
Manchester Police responded to the crash around 9:59 pm on Thursday evening.
Wilson was uninjured in the crash and he was the lone individual in the pickup truck.
McCord suffered facial lacerations and complained of chest pain following the accident and was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City for evaluation and treatment.
She is currently listed in stable condition.
One of McCord's passengers, 83-year old Joan Maniaci, suffered severe internal trauma, police said, and was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she later passed away.
Manchester Police said that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, but that at this point, failure to yield to oncoming traffic is the contributing cause of the motor vehicle accident.
