Tragically, the drug epidemic at the Jersey Shore is nothing new and the poison from the devil himself of heroin....ecstasy....crack....cocaine....LSD....mushrooms and others are finding their ways into communities.

It has been a continuing battle fought on many levels from lawmakers/legislators to police and the general public lacing up their/our gloves for a heavyweight fight to prevent drugs from hitting our community and our home.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer has initiated program after program aimed at preventing the continued use and distribution of narcotics as well as offering people ways to get out of that life.

Most recently, it's The Blue Hope Program and Operation Helping Hand.

There was an incident on Tuesday in Jackson, where police said they had been working on an investigation into narcotics distribution.

The Jackson PD Special Enforcement Unit pulled over 36-year old Matthew Vandenberg around 10:45 pm on South New Prospect Road.

He was driving a 2009 Mercedes Benz.

When police approached the vehicle and looked inside, they found 100 bags of heroin packaged and ready to be sold as well as nearly $250.00 in cash.

Vandenberg was placed in handcuffs, brought to and remains in the Ocean County Jail.

His vehicle was impounded.

Vandenberg is charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance while operating a motor vehicle and other motor vehicle violations.

This is the latest incident in a concerning trend.

Will you help in curbing the trend, preventing any more drug deals, finding people help?
