Several Good Samaritans including an off-duty nurse, an off-duty police officer, a retired police officer, two off-duty EMTs as well as other concerned citizens came to the rescue of a man who was thrown from his motorcycle after striking a curb on Route 530 and Schoolhouse Road in Whiting on Sunday morning.

Manchester Police said that CPR was given to 71-year old Dennis Menture of Whiting who wasn't breathing at the time but was then revived at the scene and brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of life-threatening injuries.

Menture had been riding a blue 2020 Wolf Islander scooter and tried to make a left turn onto Route 530 when he struck the curb, went onto the sidewalk, hit a traffic sign and rolled down a grassy embankment near the Walgreens parking lot.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing, but at this point, police believe driver error and speed appear to be contributing factors.

This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Jesse Hoydis of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
