We have been so used to events being cancelled over the past 14 months, so when we hear an event is taking place we celebrate that news, and that's just the case for the Freehold Memorial Day Parade.

The Freehold Memorial Day Parade is a beautiful event and a wonderful tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. And this year the event also symbolizes the hope of all area residents that we are getting back to a higher level of normalcy.

The parade will also feature some amazing veteran groups, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as military, religious, school and  youth groups from our area. The parade takes place Memorial Day, May 31st and it starts at 10:00 am. from the corner of Brinkerhoff Avenue and Main Street.

And remember the event is rain or shine, and in the words of Chairman Alice McCobb, "It doesn't rain on my parade!" and we are 100% behind her in that belief. It should really be a very special day.

And what about parking? You can park in the parking lot of the Monmouth County Courthouse, or you can park at the Park Avenue School Complex and walk to the parade. Crossing Guards will be there to help you get across Route 33.

We spoke with Freehold Borough Councilman George Schnurr about the big event and he reminds us that this is the 147th consecutive year the parade has taken place, making it the state's longest running parade of its kind. When this parade started America only had 37 states. That's amazing!

This event is a wonderful way to pay tribute to true heroes and get re-aquainted with some great neighbors and community members at the same time. If you want to get more info on the parade, please visit the Freehold Memorial Day Parade website.

Let's get out there and be together on the beautiful, historical streets of Freehold!
