Driver seriously injured after not wearing seat-belt in single vehicle crash in Whiting

Manchester Township Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a single-vehicle crash in the Whiting section that seriously injured the driver on Saturday night.

While the investigation continues, police said Monday morning that failure to maintain his lane and not wearing a seatbelt are contributing factors in the crash.

Through their preliminary investigation, police have learned that 64-year old Robert Casper of Whiting was heading east in his 2015 Jeep Patriot along Pinewald Keswick Road when he suddenly veered off the road and onto a dirt shoulder where he struck road signs and brush and then overturned while coming to a stop against a utility pole.

Police said that Casper was ejected from the vehicle from the front passenger side window as a result of the collision and from not being "properly seat belted into the vehicle."

Casper suffered head trauma in the crash and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation and treatment and is listed in critical but stable condition as of Monday morning.

Manchester Police said that the crash is being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of their Traffic Safety section.
