How Dare this TikTok Video Insult These Awesome Jersey Shore Things?

Warning: what you're about to see in this TikTok video is going to make you mad. 

There's been a TikTok trend going around where users (mostly Gen-Z) call things "cheugy." A TikTok user named alletercannaig used this trend to make a video to call out some pretty amazing things here at the Jersey Shore, and it got me fired up.

Now if you're thinking "wait, Diana, is cheugy even a real word, and what does it mean?" The answer to your first question is "absolutely not," and keep reading to get the second question answered and to see the video that has me so annoyed.

What does "cheugy" even mean?

According to Urban Dictionary, the "word" cheugy means:

The opposite of trendy. Stylish in middle school and high school but no longer in style. Used when someone still follows these out of datetrends. This may include but not be limited to fashion, habits on social media, usage of slang, etc.

So now that you're filled in on what this made-up word means, let me tell you about all the awesome Jersey Shore things in this video that were called cheugy, and why this TikTok user is absolutely wrong.

Smoothie Bowls

Apparently, if you still eat smoothie bowls in 2021 you're cheugy according to alletercannaig. Who wants to tell her that a) they're delicious and b) eating food doesn't go in and out of style? Sure there are foods that become popular and die down, but the thought of judging someone for eating something is a little odd.

Lawn Concerts at the PNC Bank Arts Center

Someone needs to hold my earrings for this one - because one of the best parts of summer here at the Jersey Shore is lawn concerts at the PNC Bank Arts Center. Does alletercannaig just not like having fun?

Porta and Taking Pictures in Front of the Doors

Yeah, at this point I think it's safe to say the person who made this TikTok doesn't enjoy good food and fun - because Porta has both.

Boardwalks with Rides and Games

While I don't recommend getting on the kids' rides if you're an adult, there's definitely nothing wrong with enjoying age-appropriate boardwalk rides and games.

"I can smell the cheug just from looking at a picture of this restaurant," alletercannaig says. What she really means is delicious breakfast food and coffees (love me a Nutty Irishman coffee).

Do you see a pattern here? All the "cheugy" things in this video are either fun places or have good food...or both. Why knock people for wanting to go out and have a good time?
