An Atlantic Highlands couple have passed away after being struck by a motor vehicle on Friday evening, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

Investigators say John Grogan, 60, and his wife Barbara Grogan, 59, were trying to cross the intersection along the northbound direction of Route 36 and Grand Avenue around 8:07 p.m. when they were struck by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo heading eastbound which was being driven by Dylan Rieger, 27, of Belford.

Rieger was uninjured in the collision and remained on scene.

The area around the collision was closed down for about five and a half hours for the investigation before the westbound lanes were reopened at 12:45 a.m. this morning and the area was fully reopened around 1:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and Atlantic Highlands Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART).
