Class A North

No. 5 Howell 7, No. 4 CBA 2

Senior Dan Furlong bounced back from a two-run CBA first inning to pitch a complete game and junior Russell Halvorsen picked up RBI hits in the second and fourth innings to help the Rebels rally for a win over the Colts, ending a brief two-game skid.

Halvorsen ripped an RBI double in the top of the second, during which Howell scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Senior Nick Todisco and senior Devon Smith each delivered RBI singles in the second and Halvorsen made it 5-2 with an RBI single in the fourth.

Senior Thomas Strauch hit his Shore-leading fifth home run in the top of the seventh -- a two-run shot that capped the scoring.

Junior Zaine Toneske doubled in a run in bottom of the first and scored on a single by classmate Hunter Del Guercio to give CBA an early 2-0 lead.

Manalapan 2, No. 10 Freehold Twp. 0

Sophomore Dylan Shaffer pitched a one-hit shutout on 79 pitches with one walk, one hit batter and seven strikeouts to lead the Braves (5-6, 5-4) to a win over the Patriots (6-6, 3-6), clinching Manalapan a regular-season sweep of Freehold Township.

Junior Christian D'Angelo (1-for-3 ) and senior Liam Martin (2-for-3) each drove in a run for Manalapan and senior Colton Gottlob went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored in the win.

Sophomore C.J. Svoboda went the distance in the hard-luck loss for Freehold Township, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three. Senior Ryan Keegan collected the lone Freehold Township hit and also stole a base.

 

Marlboro 15, Long Branch 2 (5 Innings)

Senior Julien Umanzor stayed hot at the plate by going 3-for-4 with his Shore-leading ninth double, two runs and two RBI as the Mustangs (6-6, 4-6) rolled to a win over the Green Wave.

Junior Danny Talarico was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI and Michael Diver was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Marlboro, which used five pitchers to cover the five innings.

Senior Adam Benetsky went 3-for-3 with a triple two RBI and freshman Carlos Torres doubled and scored a run to lead Long Branch.

Senior Matt Rigby stung a game-winning, RBI single through the middle with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning the the Bulldogs rallied from a three-run deficit to top the Falcons and remain unbeaten.

Monmouth starter Aiden Denton recorded the first two outs of the seventh before hitting the single-game pitch limit. Rumson then went to work, with senior Charlie Tallman beating out an infield single and juniors Owen Kenney and Reece Moroney working back-to-back walks.

Rigby then stepped in a shot a ground through the middle and into right-centerfield to score Tallman and Kenney with the tying and winning runs.

Sophomore John Molnar went the distance on 100 pitches and senior Ben Hutchins went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the offense as the Rockets (3-8, 3-7) topped the Purple Roses (2-11, 1-9).

Molnar allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out six in picking up his first win.

Junior Dan Calicari went 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and junior Robert Mulligan was 1-for-1 with a double, run and an RBI for Raritan.

Junior Jack Lomerson took the loss for St. Rose, while sophomore Jack Tiernan went 2-for-4 with a double and freshman Max Glassberg was 2-for-3 with a run to highlight the Purple Roses lineup.

 

Class A South

Southern 8, Brick 0

Senior Mike Nascimento pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and classmate Stephen Stafford drove in five runs as the Rams (7-5, 6-4)  handled the Green Dragons (1-10, 0-10). Nascimento walked three and finished off the shutout on 105 pitches.

Stafford led the scoring effort by going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI, while juniors Mike Nasti and Kyle Serino each went 1-for-3 with a double, with Nasti also driving in a run. Senior Brandon Brown was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and sophomore Ray Mulhern went 1-for-3 with two runs in the win.

Junior Kyle Knowsley took the loss with six innings of work and senior Joe Scamardella went 2-for-3 at the plate for Brick.

 

Class B North

Manasquan 7, Freehold Boro 6

Senior Josh Terry came through with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh and the Warriors (7-7, 5-5) walked off with a win over the Colonials (3-8, 2-7) thanks to a five-run rally in their final at-bat.

Senior Mike Presbrey and junior Brett Patten (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI) started the rally with back-to-back doubles to lead off the seventh and senior Mike Antonucci scored Patten with an RBI single that cut the Freehold Boro lead to 6-4.

The Colonials committed errors on back-to-back batters, which allowed Antonucci to score and set the Warriors up with the tying and winning runs on first and second.

A sacrifice bunt by junior Jack O'Shea moved both runners up a base, but a strikeout by Freehold Boro sophomore Shane Conover moved his team within an out of escaping. Terry, however, had other plans, stroking a single into right field to chase home Cullen Condon and Ryan Deegan.

Senior Nick Terefenko had the big swing for Freehold Boro, launching a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the fourth inning to put the Colonials ahead, 5-2. Terefenko also pitched into the seventh inning and took the no-decision.

Senior Luca Marshall fired three scoreless innings to start the game off for Manasquan before the Colonials got to O'Shea in relief. Senior Pat Woodford picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief, giving up one unearned run on one hit, two walks and three strikeouts.
