It was not long ago that the only way you found out if you had school on inclement weather days was by listening to the radio and in Ocean County that meant WOBM. As the former morning show co-host I can tell you major snow days to us was like Super Bowl Sunday.
Tomorrow is of course the annual Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Seaside Heights which a lifetime ago was one of my favorite days of the year. However, I’ll be spending the day at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River for the Non-Public State Championship basketball games.
In most cases coaches rise through the ranks, starting on the high school or college level and work their way up as an assistant before becoming a head coach. The only two women I can think of right now that meet the criteria are assistants in the NBA: Becky Hammon with San Antonio and Nancy Lieberman with Sacramento. Would it be sexist of me to say I don’t see either of them becoming a head coach in the league?
Rarely do I know with the topic for the Hometown View will be until the morning and I never imagined that today it would be about girls high school basketball but last night provided a trio of championship game endings that can only be described as scintillating.
