AVON - The Route 71 drawbridge is back down after being stuck in the open position for nearly 30 hours. The span linking Belmar to Avon over the Shark River broke on Sunday morning. Traffic is moving once again. Police had detours setup during the incident. The DOT will know by this afternoon what caused the mechanism to fail.

FREEHOLD - Monmouth County’s Freeholders are set to reorganize this week for the new year. The meeting is scheduled for 4PM on Thursday at the Bio-Technology High School in Freehold Township. Incumbent Lilian Burry and recently elected Gary Rich will be sworn in to new three year terms. Rosemarie Peters will take the seat as county surrogate for the next five years.

WEST LONG BRANCH – Plans to close post offices around the country have been met with some controversy. A public hearing on the fate of the Us Postal Service’s Eatontown facility will be held tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pollak Theater on the Monmouth University campus in West Long Branch.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR – A road closure to tell you about now. Mystic Shores Boulevard in Little Egg Harbor will be closed beginning today until January 20th for utility work. The stretch between Mathistown Road and Valley Forge Drive will be affected.
