There are no reported injuries following a two vehicle accident that occurred on Thursday morning in Toms River.

Police said that 39-year-old Roberto Olivasmorales of Hillside was heading south on Hooper Avenue driving a tractor trailer and as he entered onto the ramp to take him onto Bay Avenue eastbound, a low-hanging Verizon fiber-optic line struck his vehicle.

The fiber optic line then snapped from its utility pole and was supine across the east and westbound lanes of Bay Avenue and on its way down it also struck and damaged a traffic signal and the hood of a vehicle looking to merge with traffic from the Bay Avenue ramp onto Hooper Avenue south.

There were also three small and separate fires that ignited when the line snapped and they were put out by the responding Toms River Fire Company and New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

As for the faulty wire, crews arrived from Verizon and JCP&L to make repairs.

Police said that Olivasmorales was operating a standard size truck and trailer, and that  it's "presumed the Verizon line was low or sagging for an unknown reason when it caught the trailer causing the wires to snap."
