Central Jersey Group I

(1) Burlington City 74, (2) Keyport 73Watch | Preview

The senior trio of D.J. Thomson, George Mitchell and Anthony Longo combined for 56 points and the Red Raiders (19-7) came within a point of an improbable fourth quarter comeback before running out of time and conceding the sectional championship to the Blue Devils (21-6).

Senior Izaiah Johnson scored 24 points and classmate DeJuan Hunter added 17 to lead Burlington City to its third straight Central Group I championship in its fourth straight trip to the sectional final.

Thomson led Keyport with 21 points, Mitchell poured in 20 and Longo chipped in 15. Keyport chopped what was a 15-point fourth-quarter lead for Burlington City down to two, 73-71, on the second of two clutch, contested three-pointers by Longo.

After Burlington City made one of two free throws with 16 seconds left, junior Tarrek Mimes nearly tied the game with a three-point attempt from the corner that rimmed out. Junior Max Judson scored on the follow with two seconds left, but the clock ran out on Keyport, denying the Red Raiders their first sectional title in 18 years.
