Della Reese died earlier today at the age of 86 after a brief illness. She had an amazing and lengthy show business career. She began as a singer with big hits in the 1950s such as "And that Reminds Me," "Not One Minute More" and "Don't You Know." She also recorded an answer to Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man" called "Solitary Woman." She was one of the first African American women to host her own TV talk show, and parlayed her fame into an acting career. She had the misfortune to be on two TV sitcoms on which the star of the show died during the program's run (Chico and the Man, and The Royal Family). She has the most famous line in the motion picture Harlem Nights, but found her greatest success with a 9-season run on Touched by an Angel. She also performed the theme which can be heard by clicking below.
