Police in Toms River are issuing a warning now after certain parts of Toms River have been being disrupted and to a degree damaged by groups of unruly teenagers.

Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina said juveniles, mostly out of town residents, are congregating in large groups specifically in the northern beach sections and committing destructive behavior.

"It is a small community, they are traveling around and area primarily in Normandy and Chadwick beach," Messina told WOBM News. "While some live in the area, many are from neighboring towns and are being dropped off."

Some of the crimes these juveniles are committing include destruction of property, yelling loud obscenities and trespassing.

As a result of this recent behavior, Toms River Police will be adding additional resources to address these issues.

"The Toms River Police Department is committed to protecting the residents of our community as well as their property and will not tolerate disrespectful or destructive behavior. We are requesting parents from neighboring jurisdictions not drop their children off into this area due to ongoing issues," TRPD said in a statement on Facebook. "A heightened police presence will be in effect and there will be zero tolerance, for all offenses including motor vehicle infractions."

Meanwhile, in Southern Ocean County along LBI, the township of Long Beach has put in an emergency order in effect that prohibits anyone under the age of 17 from being out between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.
