Toms River Police Officers rescue suicidal man from Tunney Bridge
Toms River Police officers saved a man's life on Monday after convincing him to safely climb down from the railing of the Tunney Bridge which was closed for a brief time during the interaction around 5:06 pm.
TRPD spokeswoman Jillian Messina tells WOBM News that multiple police units were dispatched after calls came in for a male sitting on the railing facing the water on the Tunney Bridge.
Sgt. Lauria along with officers Franco, Burkhardt and O'Leary responded to the bridge and kept the man where he was by speaking to him until detective negotiators O'Neill and Santora arrived at the scene.
As officers and detectives continued talking with the man, his mind changed and he voluntarily came off the railing and was transported to community medical center for further treatment.
The New Jersey State Police Marine Unit and Toms River Fire responded on the water as well.
