A scary collision in Manchester Township that sent a Toms River man to the hospital is under investigation.

The details of the Monday evening car accident were released by the Manchester Township Police Department.

Through their preliminary investigation of the Monday evening crash, police said that after they arrived on scene around 8:20 pm they learned that Thomas Mangan, 38, of Manchester Township was driving a Dodge Challenger westbound on Route 571 when he started making a left turn onto Alberta Street and collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by Tyler Applegate, 31, of Toms River Township who was heading east on Route 571 at that time.

As a result of the collision, Applegate was ejected from his motorcycle which itself fell down and came to a rest on the westbound shoulder of Route 571.

Following police and EMS arrival, Applegate was brought up to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City for his injuries and is currently in stable condition.

Police said that Mangan and his juvenile passenger were uninjured in the crash.

The Monday evening crash along Route 571 remains under investigation by Patrolman Anderson of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Section.

Manchester Township Police said that they were assisted at the scene of the motor vehicle accident by "the Ridgeway Fire Department, Manchester Township EMS and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics," and that, "the roadway was closed in both directions for several hours while the investigation was being conducted."
