Going to bounce around on a Thursday morning and I promise there will be no depressing mention of how summer is coming to an end. Actually I guess I just did but that’s it. I promise.

As a matter of fact everything today will reflect positive thoughts.

Let’s start with the Mets who made it 20 wins in their last 25 games Wednesday night with an improbable ten-inning victory over the Indians.  When things are going right luck often follows and that’s what happened when Cleveland botched what should have been a game-ending double play in the 10th only to see the Mets score a pair of runs to win it.

The Amazins’ are just 1 ½ games out of the second NL Wild Card and tied with the Phillies, who have won 6 of their last 8.  It could come down to these two longtime rivals who play one another six times over a ten day span beginning later this month.

The borough of Beachwood will hold its 4th annual Community Day this Saturday at Birch & Surf Park from 12 noon to 4 p.m.  The weather forecast looks great for this free event which includes food, live music, a rock wall, bungee jump, inflatables, pony rides, a petting zoo and much more.

Community Medical Center and Meridian Health will be on site doing health assessments and it promises to be a great day for the entire family.

My long tenure here has allowed me to meet people through work who have become lifetime friends and right at the top of that list would be Sam Hammer who owns the Crab’s Claw Inn.

Maybe part of the reason we get along is that 1979 was a big year for both of us. I started working at WOBM and he and his wife Louise opened the popular restaurant in Lavallette.

Sam and I always talk about trying to get together but we rarely do because of schedules but we found some time to sneak away yesterday and catch up and tell stories about the characters who have come and gone from the barrier island.

It was only a couple of hours but it brought enough smiles to last for a few days.
