OAKHURST— A young man is getting a little bit more than a grounding after he attempted to steal a bottle of liquor and broke multiple bottles of wine on Sunday afternoon.

Employees at the Save Rite Liquors on Route 35 in Oakhurst caught a 14-year-old boy trying to walk out of the store with a bottle of alcohol in his backpack.

When employees tried to confront him about stealing the bottle, he decided to get past them and escape. He was unsuccessful at doing so and took the bottle out of his backpack and placed it on the ground.

Shortly after placing the bottle on the ground, he got passed the employee and ran out of the store, but not before breaking several bottles of wine.

The youngster, who cannot be identified because of juvenile anonymity laws, was identified by surveillance footage and arrested a short time later.

The minor was charged with Robbery and Criminal Mischief, processed at police headquarters, and was transported to the Youth Detention Facility.

CHARGES ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS. SUSPECTS ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
