The fight at the Brick Memorial-Brick football game certainly received considerable attention in part due to the fact that a student at the game captured 8 seconds of the brawl on video which was shared on social media.

The school district took swift action and announced yesterday that ten students had been suspended, some of them athletes who will not be able to participate with their teams.  I spoke with interim superintendent Dennis Filippone Tuesday afternoon and he was confident steps were taken to prevent anything like this from happening in the future.

As in most cases like this those involved in the fight represented a very small segment of the few thousand who attended the game which ironically was moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon several years ago to create a more peaceful atmosphere.

Jersey Mike’s and the Shore Sports Network have brought back a very popular feature this fall and the football team at Long Branch is the first to experience “a sub above.”  The Green Wave’s season-opening win over Manasquan earned them “Team of the Week” honors and yesterday our Shore Sports Network presented them with a game ball and a $500 gift card from Jersey Mike’s for a special team meal.  We’ll be doing this all season long and for more check out shoresportsnetwork.com.

How strange is it to watch the Yankees and Rays play at CitiField which of course is normally the baseball home of the Mets?  What’s even more interesting is the Yankees are the road team.  The teams finish up the three-game series today. It was of course moved from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg to New York because of Hurricane Irma and could not be played in the Bronx due to previously scheduled events.
