Just like bagels in New Jersey, donuts are becoming a rather competitive sweet treat.

Not to mention, the bar is being raised for what people consider to be "the best of the best" in this category.

I want to send the biggest shout out to Purple Glaze Donuts in Asbury Park who ranked as the 49th best in the nation according to a ranking done by Yelp.

They are the only Jersey Shore donut shop to even make the list so now, you HAVE to put them on your 'must-try' list.

Their donut selection is INSANE and they come in different tiers.

The first is Plain & Simple. Donuts are $2.00 each and this is where you will find your plain, glazed, vanilla or chocolate icing and powdered sugar donuts.

The next level of donuts is the Classics. Donuts cost $2.50 each and include flavors like Boston Cream, Sinfully Jelly and Purple Glaze.

The third and final tier is where it is AT!

Welcome to Fancy & Filled where donuts are $3.00 each and the flavors are wildly creative. Options include Banana Crème Pie, French Toast, PB&J, Holey Cannoli and Wake 'n' Bacon.

I've had the pleasure of trying these donuts -- I will fight you for them.

I've got even more great news -- Purple Glaze just recently added gluten-free and vegan donut options to the menu! They also do custom orders.

This might be my favorite part of this donut shop. They also offer homemade doggy treats! I wonder if my dog Carolina would like them?

Just be aware that the donut shop itself is on the smaller side. Because of this, only five people maximum are allowed inside the shop at once.

They are open 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM Thursday through Sunday. They are closed Monday to Wednesday.
