Let’s call today’s segment “Politics, Party & Passion”

First up…politics:

Toms River Councilman Maurice “Mo” Hill has won a bitter primary election and will be the Republican Party candidate for mayor in November.  Election returns show Hill receiving 3,057 votes which was 511 more than former Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato garnered from GOP voters.

Councilman Dan Rodrick was a distant third.  Hill’s running mates also secured all three spots on the ballot for the council seats up for grabs this November against a slate of Toms River Democrats who ran unopposed in the primary.

Meanwhile in Point Pleasant Beach Republican Mayor Stephen Reid lost a hostile primary battle with current councilman Paul Kanitra who will now take on Democrat Lawrence Dooley.  Kanitra received 624 votes to 419 for Reid, who was in his first term as mayor after serving previously on the Borough Council.

Second it’s about a party:

There are plenty of ways to welcome in the summer season but few can match the Red, White & Brew Wine Tasting Event at the Toms River Country Club.  Sponsored by the Community Medical Center Foundation the 14th annual is set for tonight from 5:30-8:30 and will include wine and beer tasting from 21 distributors, food from 10 area restaurants, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and more.

What makes this kick off the summer evening so special is that all proceeds support the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center. The previous 13 Red, White & Brew events have raised over $1 million and the event committee is expecting another successful event tonight. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $75 each which is a true bargain.

Last but not least is passion:

John Germano is not just the Athletic Director at Barnegat High School but the heart and soul of Bengal Nation.  If something is happening at the school he can likely be found there and he roots with passion for all of the school’s sports teams.

For John his love of the school and community is nothing new as his family has been well connected to both for years.  That’s why it was a fitting tribute this week when the concession stand at the football field was officially named the Germano Family Concession Stand.  Pretty nice tribute to a very nice family.
