Point Pleasant woman sentenced for hit and run of 14-year old girl
The Point Pleasant woman who was behind the wheel of a dark colored BMW that struck and critically injured a 14-year old girl on a bicycle and then took off in 2018 has been sentenced to three years of probation.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced that Brittany Keifer, 27, was sentenced Friday as a result of a previously entered guilty plea, to three years of probation and fifty hours of community service for Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1.
Keifer was also sentenced to one year’s loss of driving privilege and a $2,500 fine as a result of her guilty plea to the motor vehicle offense of leaving the Scene of an Accident in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-129.
The State argued for Keifer to serve 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation.
Keifer pled guilty to both charges on December 2, 2019.
Her co-defendant, Kyle Ramos, 29, of Seaside Heights, previously entered a guilty plea to Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(3) on December 2, 2019 and will be sentenced at a later date.
The accident took place Thursday August 9, 2018 around 10:30 pm when Keifer's car carried a teen on the hood of the car for a distance of 15-20 feet before she was thrown free.
Friends took the girl, later identified as "Emma Mae" off the street and tried to stop her bleeding, according to Corinne Ajjan, the mother of one her friends. She was then taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Emma Mae suffered a skull fracture in three places in the crash and doctors monitored her for a hematoma on the brain.
Following the accident that night Keifer contacted Ramos to pick her up at a location several blocks away in Point Pleasant.
Ramos assisted Keifer in hiding the vehicle and attempted to have the vehicle repaired in an effort to hinder the investigation.
Keifer turned herself in to law enforcement the following day.
A Linkedin account for a Brittany Keifer said she is a self-employed child care worker in Point Pleasant Beach.
