Dan's finishing off a long weekend, but as I fill in for him on this Monday, my thoughts are in the Bronx, where my New York Yankees are coming home to start another baseball season. And the weather will be great all across the tri-state area today.

Picking up right where we left off on Sunday, Monday features bright and sunny skies, with high temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s. Skies turn partly cloudy overnight, with lows ramping down from the mid-50s to about 50 flat around the Garden State.

Tuesday begins with more sun, but there will be a few clouds sneaking in during the afternoon hours. More on that briefly, though, because the main daytime story for Tuesday is the relative heat! Much of New Jersey could see temperatures break 80 degrees at some point, with the upper 70s as a baseline.

But those late-afternoon clouds point to about a 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with showers lingering into Wednesday morning. After that, we should clear up once again, with high temperatures dipping back down into the low 70s.

By the way, the extended forecast for the Yankees' first homestand of the year looks clear at least through the weekend. As for the Mets, they embark on their first road trip tonight — but that starts with three games in Philadelphia, so they'll get much of the same weather. Play ball!
