The memories of former Lakewood Mayor Richard “Dick” Work and Director of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau Ernest "Larry" St. Laurent will be honored at this Wednesday's meeting following their passings in the last week.

"Ocean County has lost two former public officials who worked very hard for the people of Ocean County," Ocean County Freeholder Director Gerry Little said.

In addition to being mayor in Lakewood, Work, 79, who passed away February 3 was a Lakewood School Board member, longtime Chairman of the Ocean County Planning Board, Vice Chairman of the Ocean County Board of Health and a member of the Ocean County Utilities Authority.

"Dick dedicated many long hours to the residents of his town and to the people of Ocean County," Little said.

St. Laurent, 86, who passed away January 29 served as Director of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau from 1989 to 2003.

He was also An Army veteran from the Korean War, and won a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in 1950.

"Through his work with the county and local veterans’ organizations, including the VFW, Larry dedicated his life to assisting the men and women who served their nation," Little said.

Both men will be honored with a moment of silence at the February 7 Freeholders meeting.

"The Board of Chosen Freeholders remembers Dick Work and Larry St. Laurent with fondness and thanks them for their dedication and years of service," Little said. "We send our condolences and our prayers to their families."
