Details emerge from a ten and a half hour standoff in Matawan Monday between police and 51-year old Michael "Bean" Geran.

Investigators were called to a borough home on Johnson avenue around 11:56 am by one of Geran's relatives to check on his well being.

Geran stood inside with a handgun and refused to come out upon request.

Monmouth County Prosecutors say he also destroyed their robot which was used to bring the situation to a peaceful ending.

Prosecutors add that Geran allegedly cut the wires on the MOCERT (Monmouth County Emergency Response Team) robot and  then pushed it down a flight of stairs resulting in $5,000.00 worth of damages.

Matawan police officers exhausted direct verbal communications which preceded Geran cutting off all communications with responding officers.

Geran finally surrendered around 10:18 pm and is now charged with second degree False Public Alarms, second degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, and third degree Criminal Mischief.

After being safely removed from the scene, Geran was sent to a hospital to be medically evaluated.

The standoff was brought to a close by Matawan Police along with the Monmouth County MOCERT, Monmouth County Police Chief's Association Rapid Deployment Force (RDF), Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, police officers from the Aberdeen, Brielle, Hazlet, Howell, Keyport, Long Branch, Marlboro, Middletown, Ocean Township, Oceanport, and Wall Police Departments, Matawan Fire Department and Bayshore Emergency Medical Services.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
