A man hit by a motor vehicle Saturday morning in Wildwood was taken by medical helicopter to the Atlantic City campus of AtlantiCare Medical Center with serious injuries to his head and body, according to Wildwood Police.
New Jersey Avenue was closed for about three hours as a team from the Wildwood Police and the Cape may County Prosecutor's office investigated the crash.
According to a post on Facebook by Wildwood Police, at about 9:15am Saturday, July 17, police received a 911 call saying that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Davis and New Jersey Avenues.
The pedestrian was identified as a 51-year old man from Brick, NJ. Police said the man was unresponsive and suffering from significant injuries.
The man was treated onsite by the Wildwood Fire Department, who called for a medical helicopter to transport the man to AtlantiCare Medical Center where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
Police have not identified the man by name, and, during a call to police on Sunday afternoon, they would not confirm whether the driver who hit the man had stayed on location or offer any additional information about the crash.
The investigation into the accident continues.
