Rachel Huff, 27, of Little Egg Harbor was heading northbound on Weymouth Road April 5 around 2:59 pm when another vehicle entered the southbound lanes causing her to cross over the centerline and into the southbound lanes before veering off road and ended up hitting a utility pole and a tree before being able to stop.

Huff was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, Hamilton Police said, and she suffered a serious, non-life threatening injury.

Meanwhile, her two daughters weren't properly secured in their car seats either and were injured in the crash.

Her two-month old daughter sustained a serious head injury and was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for further evaluation.

"Her injuries, although serious, are not considered life threatening," Hamilton Police said.

Huff and her two-year-old daughter were transported to Cooper University Hospital as well but in an ambulance.

Hamilton Police and Atlantic County Prosecutors investigated the crash and upon getting the toxicology report back they learned that Huff was operating her vehicle under the influence of narcotics.

She has been issued numerous motor vehicle summonses, including driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to wear a seatbelt and two counts of having an improper child restraint system.

Hamilton Police said Huff is also being charged with 3rd Degree and 4th Degree Assault by Auto as well as Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License Causing Bodily Injury.

The crash remains under investigation by Officer Jim Jacobi and Detective Nicole Odell of the Hamilton Police Department.
