Sometimes I just feel the need to “lighten up” and today just happens to be one of those times.

So with that in mind I offer some rather interesting results when it comes to danger which I took from a piece in “Men’s Health” magazine with some help from a few I found on my own.

  • Among bears, dogs, alligators and bees which do you think is the most dangerous? The answer is bees which account for almost 30% of all animal-related fatalities in the U.S.  Many of the deaths from hornets, wasps and bees come from allergic reactions.  By the way only 34 Americans die each year from dog bites and only 2 died in 2018 from an alligator attach.
  • Your odds of dying the first time you skydive when you do a tandem jump is 1 in 500,000.
  • It’s statistically safer to travel by train then by plane.
  • So is it safer to take an elevator or go down on the stairs? Elevator by far. About 25 people are killed a year in accidents on one as opposed to the more than 2,000 people who die after falling down the stairs.
  • Treadmills are involved in more than a third of gym equipment accidents that send men to the ER.
  • Those who sit 6 or more hours a day at work are 40% more likely to die in 15 years then those who sit 3 hours or less each day.
  • A person has a 1 in 24 million chance of dying on a roller coaster.
  • Logging workers have the most dangerous job in the U.S. followed by commercial fishing (Deadliest Catch), Aircraft pilots/flight engineers and roofers.
  • Probably my favorite “danger” statistic is this. According to an Italian study a single act of unprotected sex resulted in a 5% chance of pregnancy.  Unless you live your life by the odds you might want to keep that one in mind.

There is no rhyme and reason to this which sort of sums up the Hometown View.
