Jackson police save two lives in one day

For many of us, rescuing two people from death's door in a single day would be the most memorable day of our lives. For police, it's part of the territory and it's the reward of intense training, as four officers could have attested on February 17.

According to information on the Jackson PD Facebook page, Friday was less than three hours old when Officers French and Thomason headed to a house to check a report of a man who tried to hang himself, at about 2:51 AM.

Police said they found him inside the dwelling, found him suspended by a rope and still breathing, but not responding.

They cut the line and kept his vital signs intact until a township First Aid squad arrived and ferried him to hospitalization.

Around midday, 12:36 PM, Officers Candido and Chesney were dispatched to Brook Plaza, on a report of an unconscious man lying prone in the parking lot.

The officers found the 30-year-old unconscious and detected signs of heroin use, then sprang into action with a Narcan application, bringing the victim to semi-consciousness, police said.

Firefighters of Station 55 assisted in the aftermath, and the victim was hospitalized, police said.
