If you live in Monmouth or Ocean Counties, nobody has to tell you that things are expensive here. But is either county the most expensive in the Garden State?

The answer to that question is no, according to 24/7 Wall St. which recently listed the most expensive county in each state in America. So, what is New Jersey's most expensive county?

That 'honor' belongs to Hunterdon County and some of the numbers are pretty amazing. For example, the cost of living in Hunterdon County for a month is a whopping $3939.

And the monthly housing cost alone in Hunterdon County is a little over a thousand dollars. So, how do these numbers compare to the most expensive county in our neighboring states?

Putnam County, New York's most expensive county has a monthly cost of living close to $5000, nearly a thousand dollars more expensive than Hunterdon, and Pennsylvania's Chester County costs $3675 making it slightly more affordable than Hunterdon.

And if you're wondering which county is America's most expensive, your mind may first wander to the west coast, and your instinct would be correct. The monthly cost of living in California's San Mateo County is an unbelievable $6127.

That makes New Jersey seem affordable. Not really.
