A New Year's Day accident that critically injured a Freehold motorcyclist on Route 524 in Howell remains an active investigation as police speak with witnesses about the events leading up to the crash on January 1 around 2:48 pm.

It's a joint investigation between Howell Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office into the crash where a 59-year old motorcycle rider was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he remains suffering from critical injuries.

Police say a 2016 red Honda Civic, operated by a 33 year old Lakewood resident, struck a 2016 Triumph Tiger 800 Motorcycle from behind.

Their investigation has revealed numerous witnesses may have observed the vehicles leading up to the crash or the crash itself.
