How To View This Weekends Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse

This weekend, sky lovers are in for a treat with a blood moon total lunar eclipse. The first full moon in May is known as the "Flower Moon". "It’s called a Flower Moon because it arrives when all the flowers are out in full bloom."

This weekend's Flower Moon is referred to as a "blood moon". "A "blood moon" happens when Earth's moon is in a total lunar eclipse. While it has no special astronomical significance, the view in the sky is striking as the usually whitish moon becomes red or ruddy-brown."

I enjoy going out and taking in the full moon. Always a very cool sight at the various times of the year. Now we are in springtime, which makes viewing even better with comfortable weather to go out at night and enjoy this month's moon.

According to a recent Patch article, the best time for us to enjoy the Flower Moon will be overnight Sunday and Monday, depending on where you live. You may want to grab your camera and take some photos as well, I enjoy doing this too. I will probably go out Sunday night after sunset, before going to bed. I will also take a peek when I get up Monday morning at 2:30 am and check out the view as well.

Looking at the "current" weather conditions ahead of this weekend it looks like we could see some cloud cover overnight Sunday into Monday. This may cause less-than-perfect conditions. We will have to see if we get a break and we will maybe get a clear shot, either way, try your best to enjoy our sky show this weekend.

This lunar eclipse may even give the moon a "reddish" hue. "You also don't need protective eyewear, as is necessary when viewing solar eclipses."
