This is the final weekend of summer as autumn officially arrives on Monday although the weather will likely be more appropriate for iced tea than pumpkin spice latte.

We are about to start an amazing stretch of weather that will be ideal for those seeking to spend some bonus days at the beach especially over the weekend when temperatures will likely be in the 80’s.

This warm weather means a delay in putting away the summer wardrobe which I cling to for as long as possible.  I’ll repeat what I have said many times and that is clothes are among my favorite things about summer.

Frankly if I could wear shorts 350 days a year I would be happy and the same for bright colors, topsiders without socks and sandals on the weekend.  Pink, sky blue and yellow are for me and yet fashion trends say popular fall colors for men include burgundy, olive green, mustard and brown. I’m depressed already.

That light airy feeling of summer clothing will soon be replaced by the bulky and heavy feeling of long pants, sweaters and even worse, shoes that require socks.  This transition is one I dread and will avoid as long as the summer winds keep blowing in across the sea (I know that’s the lyrics from a Sinatra song).

In full disclosure my wife has already taken much of my summer wardrobe out of circulation but I’ll hang on to some of it for as long as possible.

What I have never understood is dressing for the calendar and not the weather.  It will be warm next week but I’ll see many women and men wearing clothes more suited for a crisp day in the 50’s then one with the mercury hitting 80.

Well that’s not me. I’m going to be a hold out and squeeze every last day I can out of what I like to wear, not what the fashion police suggest.  And speaking of them I don’t care what they say but you can wear some white after Labor Day as long as you match it with a more fall-like color.

I don’t subscribe to GQ any longer but I have a nose for fashion and it’s telling me that fall is not here just yet so keep the boots and browns in the closet.
