He paid his dues, literally, but deposited those dues in the wrong place and now a Spotswood man who served as treasurer at a gun club in Ocean County has been charged for embezzlement.

The announcement of the crime and charges were announced by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

On Tuesday, Michael D. Weber, 64, of Spotswood was charged with Theft after pocketing approximately $4,000 from his employer, according to a joint statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Plumsted Township Police Chief Earl Meroney.

The investigation into the allegations and cooking of the books came to light and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Economic Crime Squad and Plumsted Police who learned that Weber stole the approximately $4,000 from the Lakeside Rod and Gun Club in Plumsted Township while serving in the role of treasurer there between July 2017 and January 2021.

Prosecutor Billhimer and Chief Meroney said that, "Weber was responsible for collecting and depositing the club’s membership dues and paying the club’s expenses. While he did, in fact, collect the membership dues, Weber utilized the funds for his own personal benefit."

Weber has been charged and was processed and has since been released on a summons, pending future appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.
