Former Long Branch Elementary School Teacher accused of lewd behavior with 10-year old
A former Long Branch elementary school teacher is facing up to life in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year old girl after showing her pornography.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni announced the arrest Sunday of Gustavo Barrientos, 53, of Tinton Falls, who is being charged with first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault and second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
An investigation by Monmouth County law enforcement uncovered that while Barrientos was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Long Branch School District he would, on multiple occasions, show the girl pornography and then sexually assault her.
The investigation was run by members of the Long Branch Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Bureau.
Barrientos remains in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township pending a detention hearing.
If convicted, he faces up to life in prison on the aggravated sexual assault charge and up to 10 years imprisonment on the Endangering the Welfare of a Child charge.
He would also be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and required to register under Megan’s Law.
Gramiccioni said that investigators are looking for additional information about Barrientos’ alleged activities.
