It's not being called a suicide attempt but Point Pleasant Borough Police say the woman who leapt from the Route 88 bridge Friday night that covers the Point Pleasant Canal is recovering following a rescue effort.

Two drivers who happened to be near the bridge around 10:53 pm Friday called police and reported that a woman had jumped off the bridge.

An immediate response into the water by the Coast Guard, Point Pleasant Fire Department Station 75, Station 75 Dive Team and Point Pleasant First Aid pulled together and found the 23-year old about 400-yards south of the bridge in the canal.

She was treated for hypothermia and brought to Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township for further evaluation.

Point Pleasant Police Lieutenant David Radsniak coordinated the rescue efforts while Sergeant Chris Leonhardt and Officer Matthew Mergner pulled the woman to safety.
