UPDATE: Shortly after 11:00 a.m., police said the man had been taken into custody and taken to a local hospital.

The lockdown on schools was lifted.

Brick Township Police are at the scene of a home on Sprucewood Drive after a home health aide called police to report that her patient had a rifle and she ran out frightened.

Police Chief James Riccio tells WOBM News that officers arrived shortly after receiving a phone call around 8:59 am from the aide who was not threatened but ran out of the residence because she was scared of the situation unfolding.

Officers have set up a perimeter around the house and working to speak with the man inside the home.

Chief Riccio said they sent out alerts and locked down Brick Township High School and Warren Wolfe Elementary School as a precaution but assures parents that there is no immediate threat to their children.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
