An inmate at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold has been charged with the death of a fellow inmate that occurred on Sunday morning, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

MCCI officers found 49-year-old Daniel Ferrara of Ocean Grove unresponsive in the kitchen area around 5:20 am on Sunday morning.

The medical staff at the MCCI initiated life-saving efforts to try and revive Ferrara, but he passed away from his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:03 am.

The investigation into Ferrara's death by Monmouth County Correctional Institution investigators and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office found out that 29-year-old Evan Raczkiewicz of Bradley Beach had "struck Ferrara multiple times prior to his death."
