A 13-year old boy tragically lost his life on Tuesday evening after being hit by a car on Farmingdale Road in Jackson Township.

Police Chief Matthew Kunz tells WOBM News that the 13-year old was riding a scooter next to two friends who were on bicycles when he entered the path of a vehicle causing a crash.

The boy was critically injured and about an hour later was pronounced dead at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Chief Kunz said that the driver was from out of town and is cooperating with the investigation which in the preliminary stages suggests that she was traveling below the posted speed limit.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by JPD traffic safety unit, Sgt. Trevor Crowley and Police Officer Don Lasko in cooperation with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

If anyone was in the area, and witnessed the crash, they are asked to call Officer Lasko at 732-928-1111 extension 5252.
