Some random notes and thoughts:

We will finally get to hear from Mike Bloomberg tonight in more than the many TV commercials he has been running.  The former New York City mayor was a last-minute qualifier for tonight’s Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas and will go word-for-word with front-runner Bernie Sanders as well as Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobucher.

They have all taken shots at Bloomberg for using his personal fortune to mount a TV ad campaign that has led to his rise in the national polls. He has skipped the first four primary contests and is setting his rights on Super Tuesday, when 14 states vote on March 3.

I love pizza and finding good pizza is never a problem around the Jersey Shore as there are so many good places to choose from.  On Monday we took a ride to Jackson to try something a bit different: the signature pie from Brooklyn Square which is called the Brooklyn Square.

Fresh mozzarella, homemade sauce and a layer of Pecorino Romano cheese on a thick and airy crust is how it’s described on the menu.  Simply put the sauce is over the cheese and it was truly delicious.  They have other locations in Toms River and Manalapan but the Jackson one is where you’ll find the owner and Peter is a real character and as I found out a die-hard Yankees fan.

The Shore Conference Basketball Tournament opened Tuesday with only a few minor upsets in the more than 20 games played.  As is often the case it was not a good night for Ocean County teams as on the boys side Lakewood was the only local winner as they edged Southern and will join #3 seed Toms River North in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Toms River East and Jackson Memorial won their first-round girls games and advance to the second round along with defending champion and second seed Manchester.
