The only thing as bad as January at the Jersey Shore is February at the Jersey Shore and that arguably is better because that month is three days shorter and closer to the end of winter.  Either way we are now in the depths of despair when it comes to winter and unless you have vacations planned to somewhere warm there is not much to look forward to.  Can you really picture on a day like today that you’ll be sitting on a local beach in six months?  I can’t.

During times of misery it is somewhat reassuring to know that others have it worse.  For example if you lived in Buffalo there is still snow on the ground from a recent storm and Saturday’s high temperature is 10 degrees with a low of 2.  Of course they also have the Bills to root for while many of us are simply hoping the Giants get it right with their next general manager and head coach.

So back to winter which I detest more and more as I get older.  How do you avoid suffering the blues this time of year especially if you can’t handle cold weather?  You could binge watch some stuff on TV…maybe those shows you simply have not found time for.  Season 4 of Ozark premieres on Netflix January 21st….if you have not watched the first three I highly recommend it.  Two days later comes season 6 of Billions on Showtime so you might give the first five years a shot.  Paramount boasts a pair of shows worth your time….Yellowstone and 1883 and there are plenty of others.

Of course sitting inside all the time is not good so bundle up and head to the boardwalk and take a nice walk…just looking at the ocean even on a cold day can be very cathartic and remind you that has hard as it might be to imagine there will be a day when you can swim in that same ocean.
